Eric

Eric was barely awake and out of his bedding when Andrew came over. He wanted them to hit the town this evening, but Eric was far too distracted. He couldn’t get the image and feelings of last night out of his head. Nor did he particularly want to.

Going out with his friend was the farthest thing on his mind. He wanted to be with his angel again. Wondering if she was thinking the same and hoping that was the case. Eric noticed a slight grin escape him.

Andrew appeared to be growing impatient, like that was anything new. “Look, I said that I was sorry about last night. What do you have to do that’s more important than spending time with me?”

“I’ve met someone. I’m not angry with you, or anyone else for that matter. But, I do think you need to watch what you say to people, and try to be a little more considerate of others’ feelings.” Eric shrugged, finding he wasn’t really irritated with Andrew anymore.

He found his thoughts drifting back to her again and had to try hard not to break into a grin.

“It’s not that I-” Eric never finished his sentence as suddenly the sound of a scream that was directed to him pierced his skull. Clasping his ears he collapsed to his knees in agony.

Andrew was at his side as soon as his knees touched the floor. “What happened?” he asked. He removed Eric’s hands from covering his ears, swiping a finger along the lobe. “Blood? Who’s done this to you? Are you in pain? Answer me.”

Eric sat up trying to shake it off. All he could say was, “It’s her.”

“Your new lover, huh? Boy, I guess you have that effect on everyone.” Andrew chuckled and yanked him to his feet. “That’s what happens when you’re a sullen jerk.”

“It’s not funny.” Eric wiped the rest of the blood that had trickled from his ear. “She was calling out to me. There must be some kind of trouble.” He fought to keep the worry at bay but failed. “I need to find her. Could you please wait in the other room and allow me a few moments to try to reach her?”

Andrew tossed up his hands in mock surrender. “Sure, Romeo. Who am I to stand in the way of true love?”

After Andrew left, Eric sat on his bed, composing his thoughts. Reaching deep inside himself he found the calmness that would allow him to search out for her. He blocked out the immediate sounds, and external sensations, turning inward then reaching out.

Angelina, I heard your call. Are you all right?

Yes, Eric, I’m fine now, I’m sorry if I scared you. Her reply came quickly.

What’s happened to cause you such distress?

I broke a rule, and now I’m being reprimanded for it. I was wondering if there was any way that we could perhaps meet tomorrow evening?

He drew in a breath, getting the feeling from their connection that she was downplaying whatever punishment she was suffering. Nests could be cruel with discipline.
